Taranaki Fringe Garden Festival 2019

Every year our Taranaki Fringe Garden Festival (TFGF) garden members prepare and open up their beautiful gardens to excite and enchant their many visitors from Taranaki, New Zealand and around the world. Cottage gardens, native gardens, highly structured or rambling and informal, whatever your taste in gardens there is something for everyone. The Taranaki Garden Trust (TGT) also encourages the visitors to explore our home studio’s in the gardens and the many other places of interest along the Taranaki Fringe Garden Festival and Vintage Machinery Trail thus creating a truly Taranaki Experience as they travel the region. This is a truly unique spring experience, that has visitors inspired and motivated to take their own gardening skills to the next level, not just a show, this festival is a 10 day adventure into outstanding gardens throughout the region.

Among the 52 gardens and places of interest for visitors to see there are six new private gardens, four returning after a break and four public gardens entered. The new entries are spread around the region in Stratford, Inglewood, New Plymouth and Lepperton. It is good to have fresh gardens and ideas for the regular festival visitors but they also like to revisit gardens they have seen in past years to see what changes have been made and how the plants have grown.

Real Gardens for Real People

This year TGT have released their new motto “Real Gardens for Real People” which is a statement that explains our ethos and that of what we offer and who we are.

The TFGF offer affordable pricing at $2pp per garden, and practicality as many gardeners attending the TFGF are looking to replicate ideas from our gardens and as the concepts and features displayed are realistically attainable they are able to do this in their own gardens. Thirdly the TFGF thrives on its friendliness and approachability. All our gardeners open their gardens up with a hearty welcome and are happy to talk about their gardens, answer questions and give advice. Some of our festival gardeners also offer a free hot drink and biscuit and invite you to bring your own picnic and blanket to enjoy passing time in their garden.

Important notice to visitors

While the garden owners take every care to make sure you enjoy your visit safely, gardening is an outdoor activity and you enter at your own risk.

There are water features, uneven ground, overhanding trees and the Vintage Trail has moving machinery

We ask you to assume responsibility for your own safety, the safety of those in your care, especially children, and your possession.

Please keep to pathways where available.

No dogs are to be brought through the gardens.

Melbourne Flower Show 2017

We had a very successful promotion of the TFGF at the Melbourne International Flower Show (MIFS). Being our third year at the MIFS, we believed the gardeners had been educated in past years on where Taranaki was located in New Zealand and what the TFGF had to offer. This year we were on the map and people definitely had Taranaki and our TFGF on their minds as a destination and a festival to visit, many already knew people who had visited our TFGF, or they themselves had visited. There was a lot of interest from both tour companies, garden clubs and individuals wanting to do self-drive and go on organised tours. We would like to thank Venture Taranaki for helping to sponsor our site at the MFS.
